If you're looking to buy Egyptian cotton sheets anywhere in the world, there are a few things that you need to know before you go to make your purchase. It is difficult to find high quality Egyptian cotton sheets without nearly having to take out a second mortgage.
Okay, we're joking, but Egyptian cotton sheets that are the real thing actually are very expensive. They can cost over $500 for a set, sometimes over $1,000 depending on the grade of Egyptian cotton that they're made of.
One thing to know is this: you're not going to find what you're looking for at Wal-Mart or Target. I know they say that their sheets are “Egyptian cotton”, but they're not the high quality cotton that you're looking for. They're basically low quality Egyptian cotton that's trying to ride off the popularity of actual high quality Egyptian cotton. They're a lesser quality product trying to pass itself off as something it's not, which is luxury sheets from Egypt.
Another red flag to look for when you're shopping for these is the thread count. Legitimate thread counts of quality sheets will stop around the 600 mark. Much higher than that and you're getting an inferior product that's upped their thread count in an unscrupulous way to make it appear that their product is better than it is.
